The New Mexico Business Roundtable for Educational Excellence (NMBREE) is a non-profit and non-partisan business collaborative dedicated to improving public education in New Mexico.
Our mission is to provide information, leadership, and advocacy on issues of school improvement in New Mexico.
We envision a world-class education system that provides every person the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed. Furthermore, we believe creativity and innovation will create well-prepared graduates of our educational institutions.
Our first and foremost priority will continue to be educational reform. This journey started with our creation in 1999 and continues today. Although we were instrumental in the passage of the Education Reform Act (HB 212 – 2003 Regular Session) as well as Constitutional Amendment 1 and Constitutional Amendment 2 during the September 23, 2003 Special Election, we know that our vigilance and engagement are necessary to ensure that the reform initiatives will be sustained and that funding is protected.
Second, business must also be engaged in other elements of systematic change and continuous improvement. We encourage integrated acts of improvement to supplement and complement education reform. Business must be accountable and selective in our efforts and systemic in our approach. It is imperative that we utilize our resources and abilities to be active partners in professional development, out of school enhancement, and helping students understand the importance of education as well as the pathways and destinations available to them. We have found that “curriculum is often irrelevant for those students without a destination in mind” and business can assist both teachers and students in an understanding of possible destinations, pathways, and curriculum relevance. We will review opportunities and determine if they are aligned with our reform and improvement mission and then, and only then, engage as appropriate.
In summary, we provide a unified leadership voice for business in New Mexico. We focus on comprehensive education issues where the unique perspective of our membership and the collective economic power and the influence of the institutions they represent can and will make an important contribution in resolving these issues and implementing reform and improvement.
Our strength is one vision, one voice, and the direct involvement of our members in the issues we address and the coalitions we build. Our future depends on it; so does yours.
Please join us in the journey to educational excellence.
“United with one Vision and one Voice … Unido con una Vision y una Voz”
